Challenge
Developing a specialized test bench capable of conducting comprehensive micro-turbojet engine evaluations and accurately determining operating parameters under laboratory conditions. Designed for the Hydrogen Laboratory at Rzeszow University of Technology, the system had to meet rigorous safety criteria during high-energy propulsion tests within an enclosed facility.
Solution
Proximo Aero engineered an advanced research test bench configured to capture critical engine metrics, including thrust force, structural vibrations, temperature fields, and fluid dynamics (mass flow rates, pressures, temperatures). The setup features an integrated air intake and exhaust management system, a precision-instrumented engine mounting plate, dedicated fuel lines, and a robust ballistic shield ensuring complete operational safety during testing.
Scope of Work
End-to-end engineering, manufacturing, and operational commissioning:
- Thermodynamic, aerodynamic, and mechanical engineering design, including a full 3D CAD model and manufacturing data packages
- Structural design of the engine mounting plate and precision instrumentation for thrust, vibration, and thermal mapping
- Integration of fuel feed circuits and sensors for monitoring working fluid parameters (mass flow, pressure, temperature)
- Engineering and assembly of the airflow supply and exhaust ducting along with a heavy-duty ballistic safety enclosure
- Component fabrication, on-site installation at the Rzeszow University of Technology Hydrogen Laboratory, and final test protocol commissioning
Outcome
The completed installation provides a versatile experimental platform for both single-parameter diagnostics and extensive aerospace propulsion development programs. Its reinforced construction supports destructive testing under controlled safety protocols, serving as a dependable asset for validating novel micro-turbojet technologies.
